Race Workshop Pt 1.png

Let’s Talk About Race | Part 1

Saturday, July 18, 2020 | 12:30 - 5:00 PM MST

Salt Lake County, UT.

Exact location will be given to confirmed participants a week before the workshop.

Description:

Join Sunlight Vida for an afternoon of vulnerability and growth as we touch on white supremacy and how it affects everyone’s lives and ability to authentically show up for birthing people of color.

Let’s Talk About Race is a hands-on, interactive workshop. Because of the topics we will be covering, this workshop will be held in person while taking social distancing precautions. We need to be able to see each other in order to foster a space that is safe for everyone to be vulnerable. Come prepared to listen, speak, and learn from collective experiences. Space for this workshop is limited.

Part one will focus on two major components of white supremacy: white fragility and systemic racism. White supremacy hurts communities of color in more ways than you can imagine- including in the realm of reproductive health. Let's actively work on ourselves so that our words and actions as birth workers aren't adding to that pain.

Our healthcare system puts birthing people of color at higher risks for death and complications in childbirth. It is our duty, as birth workers, to be aware of how we can either be inflicting more harm or helping challenge these disparities.

“In a racist society, it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be antiracist” - Angela Davis
